On March 26, 2025 the 8th Judicial District Court, via the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Department, held the biennial training for Short Trial Judges and Arbitrators at the State Bar of Nevada office. Commissioner Erin Lee Truman and Commissioner Ganz along with guest speakers, Attorney David Clayson and Attorney Ryan Dennett, offered instruction on all aspects to the mandatory ADR program. More than 250 attorneys attended including the Chair of the State Bar of Nevada ADR Section, Shirley Blazich and Board of Governor Member, Andrew Craner. New Short Trial Judges and Arbitrators were sworn in by Judge Anna Albertson.

Since July of 1992, the Court Annexed Arbitration program has been in place in the Eighth Judicial District Court to provide a simplified procedure for obtaining a prompt, economical and equitable resolution of certain civil cases.  Subject to certain exceptions, all civil cases commenced in District Court that have a probable jury award value not in excess of $50,000 per plaintiff, are subject to the program. At the direction of Commissioners Truman and Ganz, the ADR Office processes, opens, and monitors over 4000 arbitration cases per year. This includes randomly assigning arbitrators from the approved panel of qualified arbitrators and monitoring all arbitration proceedings to conclusion.  The Court Annexed Arbitration Program successfully resolves over 75% of the cases assigned to it.

Any matter in the Arbitration Program that is not resolved by arbitration, automatically enters the Short Trial Program (“STP”). Implemented in June, 2002, the court-administered STP is designed to allow cases to be tried on a fast track (in eight months or less). The STP reduces the expense to taxpayers and utilizes courtrooms that may not already be in use. At the same time, the STP allows parties their “day in court” by providing a full and fair trial before a judge and/or jury.
