What is the Conflict Intervention Team (CIT)?

The CIT is a group of specially-trained mediators.  They specialize in addressing large-scale or volatile conflicts.

How does the CIT work?

  1. The CIT is invited to work with a conflict
  2. The referring party is interviewed & a decision is made to use the CIT
  3. The CIT conducts individual interviews
  4. The CIT mediates conflicts between individuals
  5. The CIT mediates with the large group
  6. The referring party receives a summary of the action taken and a prescription to reduce future conflict

Where does the CIT work?

How does the CIT benefit those participating?

How was the CIT developed?

The NJC applied for and received funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance for a Local Law Enforcement Block Grant in 1997 to fund the development and training of a team.

Volunteer community mediators and staff were initially trained to provide these specialized services through the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office.  Check out their site for more history by clicking here.
